Unmask Calls from Blocked Numbers |
|
Wednesday, 18 February 2009 |
A new service allows cellphone users to unmask the Caller ID on blocked incoming calls, obtaining the phone number, and in some cases the name and address, of the no-longer-anonymous caller. It is a new service called TrapCall, which uses a loophole in the caller ID system to reveal the numbers to blocked calls. A premium account will also show the caller's name as registered to their phone companies. The basic service, is free. The loophole is due to TrapCall forwarding the call to a 1-800 number, which reveals the caller's identity as calls to 1-800 numbers cannot be blocked.
According to Wired, you can even blacklist specified numbers.
